This tour begins with us travelling through Judean hills to the south of Jerusalem. We pass by the Good Samaritan’s inn and stop at the sign indicating the sea level. Here, we plummet beneath sea level to the dead sea which is earth’s lowest elevation on land. We continue our journey along the shores of the dead sea where the turquoise water has a white salt crust.
We make our first stop at Masada which is an ancient fortress situated on top of an isolated rock plateau. The tour then takes a cable car to the top of the plateau ruins where we can gaze upon a stunning view of the red sea. We also get to tour the debris of King Herod’s Palace of 37-31 AD. You can find water cisterns, murals, guardhouses, storerooms, bathrooms and palaces as a result of the excavation of Herod’s fortress. The structures remain today because o the remote location and dry climate.
The Dead Sea Scroll found in Qumran, and the Desert Oasis of Ein Gedi are the next destination of our tour from Masada. As the day ends, you can have a swim in the dead sea as you can’t drown on one of the many beaches nearby. The dead sea is this way due to its dense salinity nature (8.6 times more saline than the ocean creating natural buoyancy) and tan under the dazzling Dead Sea sun.
